JAMMU, Oct 28 : Panun Kashmir, an organisation of displaced Kashmiri Pandits, today threatened to intensify its struggle if its demand for a hike in monthly relief amount for the community was not met immediately.
The organisation would stage sit-ins to mount pressure on the Government to fulfill its demand, Panun Kashmir president Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo said in a statement here today.
“We will intensify our struggle if the demand for enhancement of relief amount is not met,” he said.
The decision to increase the relief, already taken by the State Government, was now before the Centre, Chrungoo said.
He said the displaced community is eagerly waiting for the outcome of tomorrow’s decision regarding enhancement of cash relief.
He said relief and economic rehabilitation is primary responsibility of the state and Central Governments. The State Government has given a constant feeling that it is non serious regarding the issues of the community and the relief holders have been driven to destitution due to the callous attitude of the Government regarding the enhancement of relief.
Addressing the meeting Virender Raina national spokesperson PK said his organization demands an equal and proportionate representation to the Pandits in the distribution of state resources and overall employment opportunities available in the State.
The KPs have an equal right over the opportunities and resources in the State but the successive Governments have ignored them in the matters of employment and proper economic rehabilitation, he added.
