NEW DELHI : The issue of Land Acquisition Bill is expected to result in stormy proceedings in the remaining part of Budget Session of Parliament, beginning tomorrow, as Lok Sabha resumes after a month-long recess and Rajya Sabha reconvenes on April 23. Besides the land bill, the government is also considering moving several other important bills including the GST Bill, Real Estate Development and Regulation Bill, Undisclosed Foreign Income and Assets Imposition of Tax Bill, 2015, Warehousing Corporation Bill and the Regional Rural Banks Bill, in the upcoming session.
A Bill for setting up an institute of national importance under the Ministry of Steel, on the pattern of IITs, is also likely to be introduced during the Session. Some other Bills to be discussed include Arbitration and Conciliation Bill, Constitutional Scheduled Castes Order Amendment Bill, Payment and Settlements Systems Bill, Repeal and Amending Bill and the Delhi High Court Bill.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu said land bill is ”the need of the hour” and the government is running against time to catch up with lost opportunities. ”The world is moving faster. India cannot lag behind,” he said and appealed to the Opposition to allow normal proceedings and not obstruct. He said the land bill was being brought after much deliberation and consultation with all stakeholders. An adamant Opposition, however, is preparing for a showdown on the issue as they have made it clear on a number of occasions including by holding a farmers’ rally today. The Congress is making efforts to muster support by organising the Kisan Khet Mazdoor Rally. Congress also launched a ‘Zameen Wapsi’ website to boost its attack on the Modi government on the issue. The government, on the other hand, is determined to pass the Bill. (AGENCIES)
