JAMMU, Mar 25: Demanding re-checking of examination scripts, hundreds of para-medical students today held a protest demonstration in front of the emergency gate of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
Hundreds of para-medical students assembled in front of the emergency gate of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and raised slogans against the Health Department, Principal GMC Dr Shashi Gupta and J&K Nursing Council for declaring such a poor result in which around 95 per cent students were declared failed.
The protesters were demanding re-checking of answer scripts of paramedical students besides publication of result in gazette.
One of the protesting students told EXCELSIOR that the paramedical students were penalized by the authorities conducting the para-medical exams, due to some unknown reasons for the past four years.
He further said that the tenure of paramedical course was one and half year, but in J&K, the exams were held after four years, which shows the lethargic approach of J&K Nursing Council and allied departments, responsible for the conduct of the examination.
“The date of exams were cancelled and rescheduled by the administration and finally, when the exams were held after four years, out of around 13 thousand students, nearly 900 students were declared as qualified”, he said.
“GMC administration has declared the result of paramedical course only on its website. Moreover the marks obtained by the students are also not shown and students are declared as fail or pass, which is in violation of set norms”, he said.
He alleged that it is deliberate attempt to declare maximum of students as failed and a probe of entire matter should be carried out so that truth would be ascertained.
“Most of the paramedical students were sure to qualify the exams and it seemed that the under a well hatched conspiracy the students were declared as failed”, he said, and demanded rechecking of answer scripts and declaration of result in a gazettee.
The protesters appealed Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to personally intervene in the matter and issue directions to concerned department to re-check the papers of paramedical students.
The activists of National Secular Forum (NSF) led by its president Sukhdev Singh were also present during the protest.
