JAMMU, May 3: In a shocking incident, a two-month-old baby, who tested positive for COVID-19 and died in Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS) hospital here, was abandoned by his own parents hailing from District Kathua, who fled from the hospital without taking the body of their baby along.
Official sources said that a two-month-old baby Arman, son of Sudhir Kumar, a resident of District Kathua who was tested positive for COVID, succumbed at Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh Hospital here.
“His parents hailing from District Kathua left the hospital without taking the body of their baby along,” sources said, adding that hospital staff tried their best to persuade the baby’s parents to take the body of the baby with them but all efforts failed.
Medical Superintendent SMGS hospital Jammu Dr Dara Singh told that a two-month-old baby was admitted yesterday morning at around 7 am.
“The baby was suffering from congenital heart disease and other problems and he died of cardiac arrest at around 8 pm,” he said. “Soon after cardiac arrest, RAT was done which came positive after which we asked baby’s parents to undergo COVID test as well, but instead of going for testing, they ran away.”
“We continuously called them but baby’s parents aren’t receiving repeated calls from the hospital”, Dr Dara Singh said, adding that a hospital authorities have informed Police Post SMGS about the whole matter.
The body of the baby has been shifted to the mortuary of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu for completing legal and medical formalities, official sources informed.
This is the first kind of incident in Jammu and Kashmir since the COVID pandemic started, which has left the humanity shaken.
