Pargal urges Govt to announce welfare measures for scribes

PCJ observes Press Freedom Day

JAMMU, May 3: The Press Club of Jammu today observed World Press Freedom Day in a function held under the chairmanship of Club president Sanjeev Pargal.
The PCJ chief called upon the journalists to ensure freedom of the press.
At the very outset, the Management Committee paid tribute to all journalists who attained martyrdom in Jammu and Kashmir in the line of duty.
“Press freedom is must for developing culture of openness, access to information and fundamental freedoms,” he said.
Pargal called upon the Government to immediately announce welfare measures for journalists working in Jammu and Kashmir under extreme tough circumstances.
He said the Government should announce minimum Rs 10,000 pension per month after the age of 60 for journalists, free health and life insurance, free travel in all Government transport and DMUs, exemption from toll at all Plazas and payment of Government advertisements on DAVP rates to all newspapers as J&K is now a UT among other welfare schemes.
Press Club Secretary General Dinesh Manhotra also addressed and called upon the media persons to be very particular while performing their duties.
Others who attended the meeting include Zorawar Singh Jamwal, vice president, Channi Anand, Finance Secretary; and all Executive Committee members including Nishikant Khajuria, Vishal Bharti, Dinesh Mahajan, Deepak Khajuria, Kunal Shrivatas, Ajay Meenia and Govind Chouhan.
