JAMMU, Jan 6: Bharatiya Janata Party MLA from Doda, Shakti Parihar today expressed serious concern over shortage of doctors in District Hospital, Doda.
In a statement, Mr Parihar said, “previous Government never paid serious attention towards acute shortage of doctors in the District Hospital Doda as a result of which situation turned from bad to worse”.
“To avail the services of radiologist the patients are compelled to go to private clinics or visit Udhampur or Jammu hospitals and this is grave injustice with them”, he regretted, adding “instead of ensuring adequate number of doctors including specialists the previous Government remained busy in issuing statements about getting Medical College for Doda sanctioned”.
What benefit the Medical College would give to the population of Doda when District Hospital is reeling under acute shortage of doctors, he asked, adding “even Anaesthetic and Pediatricians are not available in the District Hospital thereby putting patients to inconvenience”.
He alleged that it was due to non-serious approach of the previous regime that even those at the helm of affairs in the Health Department never cared to assess the prevailing situation in District Hospital and remained mute spectator to the grievances of the people.
Taking prevailing situation seriously, Mr Parihar has asked the Director Health Services, Jammu, Dr Baljit Pathania to take steps to fill up all the vacant posts of doctors and paramedical staff so that much needed succor is provided to the people of Doda district. He also asked him to assess the manpower requirement in other health institutions of the district and take corrective steps if needed so that proper healthcare facilities are provided to the people of hilly district at their door steps.
