Parliament adjourned till noon

NEW DELHI : Parliament was adjourned till noon today following uproar over separate Telangana State and other issues.
Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha witnessed noisy protests as soon as they met for the day and both Houses were adjourned till noon.
Members from Andhra Pradesh, cutting across party lines, trooped into the Well in Lok Sabha, raising slogans on the issue of Telangana. Some members were supporting creation of separate Telangana State while some others were opposing it. The members were carrying placards.
The Government plans to introduce the Telangana bill in Lok Sabha today.
Some members from Tamil Nadu were also raising slogans but could not be heard in the din.
Amid noisy scenes, Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers Srikant Jena replied to a listed question.
Earlier, Speaker Meira Kumar welcomed her Bangladesh counterpart Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, seated in special box.
Kumar said her visit would help in further strengthening ties between the two countries.
Lok Sabha also condoled the demise of former RJD member Sita Ram Singh.
As uproarious scenes prevailed in the House, Kumar adjourned it till noon.
Rajya Sabha saw members of TDP and AIADMK positioning themselves in the Well even before Chairman Hamid Ansari called the House to order.
Opposing division of Andhra Pradesh, two TDP members carrying ‘Save Andhra Pradesh’ banners and the lone Congress member with ‘We Want United Andhra Pradesh’ poster stood right below the podium.
They were countered by Congress members, who moved into the aisles carrying ‘We Want Telangana’ posters.
DMK members too were in the Well raising the issue of Tamil fishermen. They held ‘Save Tamil Fishermen’ banners.
AIADMK members led by Maitreyan blind folded themselves with black cloths and shouted slogans in Tamil.
Ansari took up the listed questions, but as the din continued, he adjourned the House till noon. (AGENCIES)
