Parliament disruptions harmed interests of women: Rekha

JAMMU, Dec 16: The fate of many important legislative bills are still stuck as they were listed for business but did not come up for discussion even once due to stalling of the Parliament proceedings by Opposition parties. This was stated by BJP Mahila Morcha district president Rekha Mahajan while expressing concern over the uncalled for protests and slogans by Congress in particular over the issue of demonetization and said that the disrupting Parliament proceeding has harmed the interests of the women.
Rekha said that it is most unfortunate and glaring example of discriminatory attitude towards the women of the country that today even after a long period of 20 years, much awaited Women Reservation Bill continues to languish in Lok Sabha. This Bill, is one of the longest pending legislations in the Indian Parliament, which seeks 33.33 per cent seats to be reserved for women in the Lok Sabha or the Lower House of Indian Parliament and in the State Legislative assemblies. This Bill was introduced in the Indian Parliament long back in 1996.
Although after a long battle, the Bill was passed by the Rajya Sabha in 2010, but it never made to the Lok Sabha and could not become a law and implemented.
Rekha Mahajan said that it was highly expected that the bill would be passed unanimously in Lok Sabha during the current session but again failed to see the light of the day because of the continuous uproar created by the Opposition in the Parliament on the issue of Demonetization.
