Parliamentary Standing Committee visits institutes in Leh

LEH, July 5: Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports, under the chairmanship of Dr Vinay P Sahsrabhuddhe, MP, Rajya Sabha visited Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS), Choglamsar and interacted with staff including teachers and discussed the promotion of research, innovation and documentation in the institute.
Joint Secretary, Ministry of Culture, gave a brief introduction of CIBS, its structure and history, main objectives of the institute, staff, student strength, courses offered and the ongoing research programmes. The Committee also held an interactive session with the students and gave a patient hearing to their grievances.
Members of the Committee later visited Druk Padma Karpo School at Shey and interacted with the school management and teachers and talked on bringing innovations in the curriculum, pedagogy and infrastructure to develop exemplar schools.
The school management apprised the Committee members of the facilities and activities in the school.
They later inspected the community classes at Thiksey to address the challenges faced in school education during COVID-19 pandemic.
The Committee members then visited Sherap Skitsal Ling Library and Learning Centre at Thiksey and Sindhu Ghat at Shey.
The Committee held a meeting with the SBI Management on Educational Loan for pursuing higher studies.
Joint Secretary, UGC Director, Department of Higher Education; Joint Secretary, School Education and Director, Department of Financial Services were also present in the meeting.
