JAMMU, Feb 12: Northern Command chief of Army Lt Gen KT Parnaik held a high level review of security scenario in Srinagar today with top brass of Army, police and Intelligence agencies. He also visited areas along the Line of Control (LoC) and reviewed operational preparedness of the troops.
Lt Gen Parnaik held a joint security review meeting with Army and police officials and discussed prevailing law and order situation in the Valley, which has been witnessing trouble after the execution of Afzal Guru, a convict in 2001 Parliament attack case.
The meeting among others was attended by GOC Chinar Corps Lt Gen Om Prakash, Director General of Police, Ashok Prasad, Additional DGP Law and Order, K Rajendera, IGP Kashmir SM Sahai and Ashok Patnaik, Joint Director of Intelligence Bureau.
Lt Gen Parnaik said the Army would continue with its area domination and provide operation support in sensitive areas for dealing with current law and order situation in the Kashmir valley.
He referred to the synergized approach in dealing with law and order in Kashmir.
Top officers of Army, police and IB gave their assessment of the situation to Lt Gen Parnaik in the meeting, official sources said. The top brass of Army, police and IB, present in the meeting, was of the view that situation would be brought completely under control in the next few days. They observed that authorities would maintain strict vigil on the situation after prayers on Friday afternoon when some vested interests could make attempts to vitiate atmosphere.
They said the Army Commander assured police of full cooperation of the Army in dealing with any kind of situation emanating out of ongoing protests. He said the Army would help police and para-military, if required, in keeping the situation under control.
The GOC-in-C Northern Command earlier visited forward areas including high altitude locations of Gurez, Kupwara, Uri and Gulmarg sectors along the Line of Control (LoC) and complimented troops for their dedication, outstanding vigilance, high state of preparedness and determination for braving all odd in service of the nation.
Lt Gen Parnaik lauded the troops for high degree of control and respect to human rights norms while managing internal security situation prevailing in the Kashmir valley.
