SRINAGAR : Sun was playing hide and seek today in the Kashmir Valley, where maximum temperature was below normal while minimum was recorded above normal. A Met department spokesman said there could be isolated rain or thundershowers in Jammu and Kashmir later today till Saturday.
A fresh WD will also hit the region tomorrow, he added. Major parts of the Kashmir valley witnessed rain and strong winds last evening for about an hour, causing damage to fruits in south, central and north Kashmir.
The summer capital, Srinagar, also witnessed rainfall accompanied by strong winds last evening after recording one degree below normal maximum temperature yesterday. However, the minimum temperature witnessed further increase and was above normal. Against yesterday’s 14.7 degrees celsius, it was 15.5 degrees minimum temperature, 2.5 degree above normal.
The spokesman said the sky would be partly cloudy with thundery development in the city tomorrow when the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 28 degree and 15 degree respectively.
World famous ski resort of Gulmarg, Qazigund, Kokernag and Kupwara in the valley witnessed drop in the minimum temperature. Against yesterday’s 9.3 degrees minimum temperature recorded yesterday it was 6.8 degree, more than two notches below normal. Pahalgam, a health resort in south Kashmir recorded 8.6 degrees, about two notches above normal.
However, Qazigund recorded 11.8 degrees as minimum temperature, slightly below normal while at Kokernag it was 10.9 degrees, two degree below normal and Kupwara 11.8 degree slightly below normal.
There was no major change at Leh where the minimum temperature remained almost unchanged at 8.3 degrees against yesterday’s 8.4 degrees while at Kargil it was 8.6 degrees against 6.8 degrees recorded yesterday. He said the sky would remain mainly clear and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 23 degrees and 8 degrees respectively during the next 24 hours. At Jammu the sky would be partly cloudy and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 41 degrees and 25 degrees respectively during the next 24 hours. (AGENCIES)
