JAMMU, Aug 18: Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC) has urged upon Lt Governor Manoj K Sinha to issue an advisory to the Revenue Department to immediately initiate the process to handover the possession of lands allotted to DPs of 1947 from PoJK strictly within the parameters of Agrarian Reform Act of 1976 and the judgments passed by High Court with regard to the possession of lands presently under the illegal occupation of locals/tenants.
While addressing a press conference, Gurdev Singh (president JKSAC) flanked by Puran Singh Chib, Ajeet Singh, Dwarka Nath Khajuria, Tarsem Singh Chib and other senior leaders expressed their serious concern and condemned the Revenue administration for blatant violation of Agrarian Reform Act and judgments passed by High Court in respect of handing over the possession of their allotted lands.
He apprised the media that DPs of POJK were allotted the evacuee/state land vide Government Order Number 578-C of 1954 for their sustenance under the rehabilitation policy as per the Government prescribed scale. “Approximately 23,000 families were allotted lands and out of which as per Government reports more than 8,000 families were allotted lands much below the sanctioned scale,” he added.
The JKSAC president said the majority of these families were unable to cultivate their lands for certain valid reasons viz. firstly, some families were allotted less land which was insufficient for their livelihood, the revenue authorities did not support the DPs with regard to possession of their allotted lands and in many cases the land allotted to DPs was already in possession of locals and influential persons.
Singh said whenever the revenue officers/officials were approached by DPs for handing over of possession of their lands, they were refused on one pretext or other. He made a humble appeal to the LG to take cognizance of this sensitive issue and put a reign on revenue officers/officials particularly some Tehsildars and Patwaries who are violating the law and are looting the innocent DPs.
