UDHAMPUR, May 1: Ranbir Singh Pathania, former MLA & BJP Spokesperson has called for a comprehensive action plan with a view to combating forest fires.
While addressing a public meeting in Majalta, Pathania stressed for countering forest fires which had destroyed the valuable forests of Sewna-Ghordi-Parlidhar-Sattian-Tarmyan in Udhampur district. He called for immediate registration of a criminal case with a view to find the exact culprits behind the genesis of forest fires.
The BJP leader was also vocal for capacity building of the local forest staff. “For engaging seasonal fire watchers and the traditional employee strength, the officers have no technical expertise. Neither do they have latest instruments nor any blueprint as to how forest fires could be controlled and guilty be brought to the book,” he said.
Pathania further called for massive efforts to compensate the forest losses in the sensitive and ecologically fragile forest areas of J&K.
Other issues, which were projected in the meeting, included provision of animal healthcare, healthcare, sports facilities, KV in tehsil Majalta, adequate staff in schools etc.
