Pathania calls for Relief & Disaster Management Policy

Ramnagar, Aug 23: R. S. Pathania, MLA Ramnagar, today conducted an extensive door-to-door visit of landslide-affected areas in village Chore Panjian of Majalta tehsil, and distributed tents, clothes, food, and other general utility items amongst the affected families.
While expressing his solidarity with the affected people, he also appreciated the prompt response of local administration and advised the people of the area to exercise proper caution in future. Not only the construction of houses need to be planned and systematized in planned way but a scientific research needs to be carried out as to how a landmass as vast  as hundreds of kanals has drifted away all of a sudden.
Mr. Pathania while interacting with the people of this far-flung pocket of Ramnagar assembly further sought formulation of a comprehensive ‘Relief and Disaster Management Policy’ for J & K in the aftermath of whopping losses caused by this landslide which has left demolished as many as 100 houses in Billawar and Ramnagar areas.
The level of damages has increased manifold as earth beneath houses/agricultural lands/orchards has drifted causing major losses to houses and other immovable properties of the people. And, worse more, any Govt. agency or department has not been able to procrastinate this malady,” he said and added that the situation calls for immediate unfolding of relief and rehabilitation measures and drafting of  a detailed policy-document as to how these whopping losses can be prevented/minimized in future. He also emphasized for afforestation to be started on war-footing with an immediate ban on cutting of green trees.
Tehsildar Majalta, Sourav Sharma, SHO Majalta, Naib Tehsildar, BDO Khoon, and other officers of PWD, PDD, Agriculture, Horticulture, Watershed and other line departments were also present on the spot.
Prominent among those who accompanied Mr Pathania in the tour, included Capt Gopal Singh, Sharan Singh, Ram Chand, Romesh panch, Sanju, Pritam Singh, Ved Pal, Raman Sharma, Kuldip Singh, Mohan Lal Sharma and others.
