UDHAMPUR, Dec 2: MLA Udhampur East, Ranbir Singh Pathania today called on the government to come clean on its promise to regularize Daily Wagers (DWs).
Addressing an interactive meeting with daily wagers and casual workers from the PHE, PDD, and other departments, Pathania expressed concern over the lack of any concrete policy or mechanism for regularisation over the past three decades.
He said, “It is a travesty of justice that for almost three decades, successive governments failed to introduce a clear policy on regularization.”
Pathania further highlighted the plight of workers who have served for over three decades, with some having passed away while performing essential duties, still hoping for regularization.
“This is exploitation of the worst kind,” he added, emphasizing that the right to regularization is a fundamental right and keeping daily rates / contractual / casual workers in a state of uncertainty is a most weird thing.
He also raised the issue of unpaid wages, pointing out that all permanent daily wagers in the PHE department have not been paid for the past 60 months and called for the timely and decent payment of wages.
Earlier, Pathania chaired a meeting of the Rogi Kalyan Samiti Majalta, where he discussed the mission of “Affordable Health for All” under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He also launched a major sanitation initiative in collaboration with the Department of Rural Development and stressed the need for improving public health infrastructure in the region.
Among others who attended the meeting included Gopal Singh Mankotia (Mandal Pradhan), Mohan Lal Sharma (Mandal Pradhan), Amit Magotra, Anil Sharma, Hem Raj Gupta, BD Gupta and Balkar Singh.
