RAMNAGAR, Sept 6: Ranbir Singh Pathania, former MLA and spokesperson J & K BJP, toured remote and backward areas of Ramnagar Assembly constituency and took stock of the people’s issues as well as ground-situation.
While Addressing workers’ meetings at Dehma (Majalta) and Ramnagar, he called for immediate restoration of damages caused due to incessant rains. “A crisis-like situation has been prevailing in areas of Ramnagar, Majalta and scores of villages where incessant rains have caused whopping losses to person and property. Houses have collapsed. Almost every link road has been either damaged or closed and road-traffic has been suspended on major roads of the area. Power and fresh drinking water supply have been suspended. Given the situation in view of unprecedented rainfall in areas of Ramnagar, Majalta and other parts of Udhampur, Chenani, Ghordi and Panchari, and the absence of Government touch over here, threats of a starvation and epidemic break-out are looming large,” he explained.
Pathania feared that the situation in these areas is expected to become graver as fresh rains have hit the area. “And the shortage of essential commodities like LPG, kerosene, household articles and power and clean drinking water may bloom up into a calamity for the people putting up over here,” he said and alleged that the administration has done nothing to unfold the process for assessing the losses suffered by people on account of snowfall over here.
Pathania also sought immediate announcement of compensation for maize-crop losses in scores of villages like Khaned, Ponara, Lodhra, Mang, Jofar, Balota, Basantgarh, Siameri, Pachound, Majori, Bari Ladana and other higher reaches of Ramnagar where incessant rains have caused whopping losses to standing maize-crops. And at places, he added, crop-loss is 100 percent creating threats of starvation over there, particularly in certain hilly and far-flung areas, where people survive on only maize-crop as the only ‘Rabi’ season crop.
While making a fervent appeal to the Governor, Pathania sought unfolding of immediate crash measures so as to restore power, drinking water, ration supplies and spur up human and animal healthcare facilities in the area so that the miseries and hardships of the people over here could be curtailed. He also sought prompt steps for restoring/opening up of roads in the area and relief to the affected families.
