UDHAMPUR, Feb 25: Ranbir Singh Pathania, spokesperson BJP has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families who have lost their loved ones in Meerut cold store tragedy. ‘My heart reaches out to the grief stricken families in this hour of grief and despair’. He called upon Lt Governor for compensation at the tune of Rs 5 lakh to each of the families of the dead, Rs one lakh to seriously injured in this unforeseen tragedy. He said just 3-4 days before, two young people from Latti, Udhampur, had lost their lives in a lift-crash at BhavNagar, Gujarat.
Pathania further said these people who go for out of station for laborer- are not safe and secure and it is a moot question that how the various laws, legislations in place in India come to their rescue and help. The issue had come to the fore during corona crisis too when lacs of people who had gone for out of station labour were there without any registration and safety of various labour laws. While making an appeal to the UP Chief Minister, Pathania said that it also needs to be enquired as to how the roof of the cold store fell to the ground.
It also needs to be seen of the owner of the cold store has observed necessary safeties, codal formalities and insurances/ deductions to protect the poor labourers against such unforeseen contingencies, he added.
