Many unfilled posts of Consultants, others in DHs, SDHs, PHCs of UT

JAMMU, Mar 24: The patient care has been badly hit in the entire Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory (UT) as there are 7740 vacant posts including those of doctors and other gazetted as well as non-gazetted staffers in all of the nine Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) of the UT while the situation is equally worse in the District Hospitals (DHs), Sub-District Hospitals (SDHs)/Community Health Centres (CHCs) and Primary Health Centres (PHCs) of J&K.

Reliable sources in the Health and Medical Education Department stated a total of 1797 vacant posts of gazetted officers in all the nine GMCs of J&K along with 5943 non-gazetted vacancies in these health institutions.
With maximum number of 362 vacant gazetted posts, GMC Jammu stands at the top while GMC Srinagar has maximum number of 1984 vacant non-gazetted posts.
However, there are 347 vacant gazetted posts in GMC Srinagar and 1392 non-gazetted vacancies in GMC Jammu.
There is a sanctioned strength of 669 gazetted posts in GMC Jammu and Associated Hospitals of which only 307 posts have been filled while there is a sanctioned strength of 4754 non-gazetted posts in this medical institution of which 3362 are filled.
There is a sanctioned strength of 812 gazetted posts in GMC Srinagar and Associated Hospitals out of which only 465 are filled while there is a sanctioned strength of 5997 non-gazetted posts there out of which only 4013 are occupied.
In GMC Anantnag, there is a sanctioned strength, of 334 gazetted officers out of which 243 are in position thereby making a vacancy of 91 vacant gazetted posts while there are 748 sanctioned non-gazetted posts out of which 465 are in position making 283 non-gazetted posts vacant.
Similarly, GMC Baramulla has sanctioned strength of 326 gazetted posts but only 94 officers are employed there leaving 232 vacant gazetted posts while of the 711 sanctioned non-gazetted posts only 354 people are working thereby making a vacancy of 357.
In case of GMC Doda, there are 311 sanctioned gazetted posts against which only 157 officers are in position making a vacancy of 154 and as far as non- gazetted posts are concerned in GMC Doda, there is a sanctioned strength of 669 against which 444 personnel are employed leaving a vacancy of 225.
In GMC Kathua, against the sanctioned strength of 319 gazetted posts, 198 are in position which leaves 121 vacant posts while of the sanctioned strength of 668 non-gazetted posts, 480 are in position which leaves vacancy of 188 personnel.
GMC Rajouri has 321 sanctioned gazetted posts of which only 148 are filled which makes 173 posts vacant while of the 673 sanctioned non-gazetted posts in this GMC only 441 are in position leaving 232 vacant posts.
GMC Handwara has a sanctioned strength of 162 gazetted posts of which only 55 are in position leaving 107 vacant posts while of the 794 sanctioned non-gazetted posts, 57 have been filled taking the vacant posts to 737 in this medical institution.
In GMC Udhampur there are 346 sanctioned vacant posts out of which 136 are in position making 210 posts vacant while sanctioned non-gazetted posts in GMC Udhampur are 626 of which only 81 are in position which leaves 545 posts vacant.
Similarly, as far as the DHs, SDHs/CHCs and PHCs of Jammu and Kashmir are concerned, there are also alarming vacancies.
In Jammu division there are 10 vacant posts of Senior Consultants in District Hospitals and one vacant post of Senior Consultant in SDHs/CHCs while there is a vacancy of 42 Consultants in District Hospitals and 89 in SDHs/CHCs.
Posts of 53 Medical Officers are vacant in District Hospitals of Jammu division along with 103 in SDH/CHC and 181 in Primary Health Centres.
There is a vacancy of one Dental Surgeon in District Hospitals, 2 in SDH/CHC and 64 in Primary Health Centres of Jammu division.
As far as vacancies of para-medical staff in Jammu division is concerned, District Hospitals have 221 vacancies, SDH/CHC 360 and PHCs have 416 vacancies.
In District Hospitals of Kashmir division there are 42 vacant posts of Consultants, 48 of Medical Officers, 4 of Dental Surgeons and 216 of para-medical staff.
In SDHs/CHCs of Kashmir there are 84 vacant posts of Consultants, 48 of Medical Officers, 511 of para medical staff while in PHCs of Kashmir, there are 89 vacant posts of Medical Officers, 22 of Dental Surgeons and 546 of para medical staff.
