UDHAMPUR, Oct 8: An expensive and delicate knee arthroscopic keyhole surgery was performed in District Hospital (DH) Udhampur on a 43-year-old who was suffering from knee pain for last 3 years.
The surgery was performed by Dr Balvinder Singh, Consultant Orthopaedics of the District Hospital Udhampur who is specialized in arthroscopic (button hole surgeries) from Germany. He was assisted by Dr Sunil Kailo (anesthetist) and technicians Santosh Singh, Rajinder, Mahesh and Martin. Just after five hours of the surgery, the Dr Balvinder made the patient to walk.
Elaborating on the successful surgery, Dr Balvinder said arthroscopic knee surgeries are very expensive surgeries in private setup but he is doing these surgeries in Government hospital and that too at district level which is very beneficial for patient, both financially and physiologically as otherwise patient have to travel outside the UT for these surgeries and pay hefty amount.
Dr Balvinder, who is also president of Doctors Association Jammu (DAJ), said all facilities of orthopaedic surgeries is being provided in District Hospital Udhampur by Dr KC Dogra (CMO Udhampur) and Medical Superintendent Dr Vijay Raina without whose support it was not possible to do such high end surgeries at district level.
Pertinent to mention here that, before starting of COVID-19, one Indian football team player had come to Dr Balvinder straight from Delhi to get his knee operated. He was operated successfully after which he had resumed his play in a very short time.
