Patients rue lack of heating arrangement at SDH Sopore

SRINAGAR, Dec 31: The patients at Sub District Hospital in north Kashmir’s Sopore are facing a tough time as the hospital administration has failed in putting in place the necessary heating arrangement at the ward that houses newborns.
Several patients said that for the last few days, they are suffering due to intense cold as the hospital administration has not paid any heed to their woes in the total absence of heating arrangement.
“In this ward, there are newborn babies, women who have undergone C-Section and in the absence of heating arrangement, they are facing a tough time; there are ACs but they are lying defunct, we don’t know why,” an attendant of one of the patients said.
He said that windows are covered with blankets even as several windows are without glasses which further aggravate the situation in the ward.
The aggrieved patients said that they have time and again brought the matter to the notice of the concerned BMO but to no avail.
“He has given a small heating gadget to be used in the ward, but how can that be sufficient; there is no central heating system in the ward,” the attendants said.
They said that there have been several newborn babies whose health deteriorated due to bone-chilling cold even as the officials have failed to act and put in place the required heating arrangement.
“If anything untoward happened to any of the newborns, the responsibility solely lies on the hospital administration due to their inaction,” the attendants said.
It is to be noted here that the ward houses sensitive cases and ideally should have got a central heating system available there for ensuring 100% heating to the inmates.
When the issue was brought to the notice of the concerned BMO Dr Zulfikar Nabi told Excelsior the issue has been resolved. “There was some issue with the ACs and the same has been rectified,” he said.
