With the temperatures soaring, one can imagine the plight of patients, who have now started carrying fans to beat the heat. Patients admitted in wards on the top floors are the worst-hit as the maximum temperature even in this mountainous district is hovering between 32 to 34 degree Celsius.
Om Prakash, an attendant, said there is no central air-conditioning system in the hospital. There are 25 to 30 ACs installed in the Hospital but most of them are non-functional and nobody is bothered about this. “Power cuts have become a routine affair,” they added.
Another attendant said that even in Dialysis ward, ACs are not working and patients are having a tough time there. He said the Medical Superintendent and the CMO Kathua should take immediate steps to get all the defunct ACs repaired in the interest of the patient care.
When contacted, Medical Superintendent (MS) of the Hospital, Virinder Trishal said, “There are about 30 AC units installed in the entire Hospital including Emergency, OT, Labour Room, General Wards and Dialysis Ward. There was leakage in the area adjacent to Labour Room and while correcting it, the outer units of the ACs were disconnected and thus, they are not functional.”
He said they have written in this connection to DC Ramban and Director Health Services. “The estimate for repair and maintenance of ACs is made by Mechanical Division and they have made the DPR which we have submitted to the Government. We are hopeful that Government will swiftly take favourable action in the interest of patient care,” the MS added.
