Patients suffer as Mendhar SDH faces shortage of doctors

POONCH, May 12: Patients in Mendhar Sub Division of Poonch having population of about two lakhs are suffering due to shortage of doctors in the Sub District Hospital (SDH) Mendhar.

Official sources said that the posts of several doctors are lying vacant in Sub-District Hospital, Mendhar. The people have to go to GMC Rajouri or Jammu due to non-availability of child specialists, Physicians and several other specialist doctors at SDH Mendhar.
Local residents Balram Sharma and Raja Mehmood Khan said that there were transfers of doctors in the recent past when the Child Specialist doctor was transferred, but after this, no doctor was posted at SDH Mendhar. There is no doctor of Anaesthesia in this hospital and the post is lying vacant for the last many years. Not even small operations are done here due to non availability of doctor. The operation theatre and allied equipment/ machinery is available but due to non-availability of anesthesiologist, patients have to go outside the Sub Division and even district.
They pointed out that the border area under Sub-District Hospital Mendhar, including Balakote and Mankote, having scores of villages from where thousands of patients come, they feel disappointed after coming here when specialist doctors are not available in this hospital.
The people have demanded that the vacant posts of doctors should be filled up in this hospital so that people do not have to face trouble. They said preferable, doctors from Poonch- Rajouri area be placed in this hospital, the others either do not join or manage their posting somewhere else.
