Srinagar, Dec 13: All J&K Patwar Association (AJKPA) today expressed reservations regarding the ongoing digitization of the revenue records while stating that most Patwaris are not familiar with the working of the computers.
Addressing a press conference here, the leaders of the association said that the moment the land passbooks were issued, there were certain issues raised by the people, while some of the observations were also brought to the notice of the Government by AJKPA.
“Revenue records are in a transition mode, but despite raising the issues, the Government went ahead with another digitization program and tasked the Patwaris to complete the digitization after the company which was given the contract failed to do so,” the members of the association said.
They said that digitization is a welcome step and will provide relief to the people, but they said, there are certain issues which need to be rectified.
“The contract for the digitization was given to an MNC known as Ramtech, they have not been able to complete the 2 districts which were taken initially, Srinagar and Jammu.”
They said that the task was not completed and there was no action taken against the company. “We have been asking for answers in this regard, but there is total silence; we would like to ask what action was taken against them,” they said.
The association said that there is a need for taking digitization in a systematic way while the entire process has been handed over to the Patwaris after Ramtech failed to do so.
The members of the association said that many of the Patwaris are not aware of the working of computers and there is no infrastructure available in the department.
“Revenue training institutes must be made active. The software used in the digitization is not updated; there are several issues which have not been rectified yet. There is an issue with the translations,” they said.
