NEW DELHI: Popular names from the literary, political and entertainment worlds including this year’s Man Booker winning author Paul Beatty, politician and writer Shashi Tharoor and veteran Bollywood actor Rishi Kapoor among others are set to speak at the 10th edition of the Jaipur Literature Festival(JLF) next year.
Touted to be the largest free literary event across the globe, the five-day festival will begin on January 19 and will be held at the historic Diggi Palace in Jaipur.
“To celebrate its 10 years, organisers have decided to announce 10 speakers set to appear at the festival every week over the period of 10 weeks every Tuesday at 6 pm starting today,” organisers said.
Beatty who won the Man Booker Prize this year for his book “The Sellout” will make his debut appearance at JLF. He became the first American to win the Prize, since the inclusion of non-Commonwealth English language fiction in 2014.
Also, making their first appearances at JLF will be Irish filmmaker Neil Jordan, and writer and artist Amruta Patil.
Actors like Rishi Kapoor and Nandana Sen will also be present at the event.
A Member of the Parliament and former diplomat Shashi Tharoor will return to the festival with his latest book “An Era of Darkness: Empire in India”.
Academy Award nominated director Stephen Frears, whose latest venture “Florence Foster Jenkins”, starring Hugh Grant and Meryl Streep, has been nominated for four Golden Globes, will also be attending the event.
With a special focus on the importance of translation in the upcoming edition, the festival will also see participation by Tamil writer Vaasanthi, whose works have been widely translated into Malayalam, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, English, Norwegian, Czech and Dutch.
Indian naturalist, conservationist and writer Valmik Thapar, who has spent four decades serving the cause of wild India, and yogi, mystic and bestselling author Sadhguru will also be part of the event.
The 10th edition of the festival will come to an end on January 23. (AGENCIES)
