BHADERWAH, Dec 26: Pradesh Mahila Congress president and former MLA Indu Pawar today urged upon the women cadre of the party to gear up for the coming elections in the State.
Addressing women’s convention at Bhaderwah town today Pawar urged upon the women workers of the party to extend their activities in every nook and corner in view of coming Assembly and Lok Sabha elections. She stressed the need to strengthen party at booth, ward level and Panchayat level.
Pawar further said the presence of women even from remote villages in such a large number was a clear proof that women were aware of their rights and they were ready to move shoulder to shoulder with men in every sphere of life. She said Congress was the only party, which under the leadership of Rajiv Gandhi, had ensured the representation of women in every field.
She said, it was due to Rajiv Gandhi’s efforts that women were given 33 per cent representation in Corporations, Municipalities and Panchayats.
Former minister Mohd Sharief Niaz said that the Congress party was always in favour of giving proper representation to women in the State Assemblies and Parliament. He said it was due to Sonia Gandhi that the Women’s Empowerment Bill was introduced in Parliament. He said it was the Congress party which elected a woman as the President of India and made a woman the Speaker of Parliament. Niaz exhorted the women of district Doda to stand up for their rights, and promised that the Congress party will be solidly behind them.
In the day long convention in senior Congress workers of Doda district along with it’s female brigade in large numbers also participated.
The convention was also addressed by District president Sheikh Mujib Ali, Shabir Khan, Suresh Gupta, Rekha Devi, Sushma, Dimple, Birjesh Sharma, Anil Kumar and Javed Azad.
