Sir,
This is in reference to the write up, “Do away with Income Tax” by Shivaji Sarkar, DE, 18th July.
I agree with all the observations made by the author regarding Income Tax. It is quite unjustified to tax the annual income above Rs two lakh fifty thousand during these times of high inflation and expensive health care and medicine.
If you have an income of three lakh during the financial year 2015-16, your tax liability would have been Rs 3090. If you failed to pay Rs 3090 you would get a notice from Income Tax Department and on prosecution you would be jailed for a period of six months which could go up to three years. This is income tax law.
On the other hand, if you have cheated Government Banks, including SBI, of an amount to the tune of Rs sixteen thousand crores you could fly to UK unhindered and nobody could touch you. Powerful Indians have cheated billions of rupees from hundreds of scams from Bofors to Kargil martyr’s coffins. I request the Indian Govt to first recover the looted money from these scamesters and then take action against so called “Tax chores”.
Yours etc….
