JAMMU : Legislative Council today issued fresh summons to former Army Chief General VK Singh for his alleged remarks about pay-offs to State politicians.
“As Gen Singh did not appear today in person before the privilege committee despite summons, the committee decided to issue fresh summons to him,” Chairman of State Legislative Council Amrit Malhotra told the media.
Mr Malhotra said Gen Singh has been again summoned for January 22 to appear in person before the committee. Earlier, Gen Singh was asked to appear in person on January 9 and the motion was moved by the Upper House of the Assembly by three National Conference MLCs.
The summons is in addition to a breach of privilege pending against Gen Singh with State Assembly Speaker Mubarak Gul, who issued notice on October 24, 2013 to the former Army chief asking him to explain his alleged remarks on pay-offs to some Ministers from the Army’s secret funds during his tenure.
The notice was issued in response to a privilege motion moved against Gen Singh by 15 Ministers and MLAs. Gen Singh, however, had submitted his reply along with a CD, which was made public by the Speaker’s office. (AGENCIES)
