PCB order being flouted by importing poly bags of less than 50 microns: PMTA

JAMMU, Sep 24: J&K Polythene Manufacturers and Traders Association (PMTA) today alleged that importers in J&K are blatantly following the J&K Pollution Control Board order by importing the polythene carry bags from other states.

Addressing a press conference here today, president PMTA Rajesh Gupta said that J&K Pollution Control Board has forced the manufacturers to manufacture polythene carry bags above 50 microns but the polythene bags imported from outside the J&K UT is not more than 10-15 microns. He said the implementing authorities like Municipal Corporation, Municipal Committees, Police, Revenue Department etc are ignoring this menace.
“This import of polythene bags of lesser microns is also causing revenue loss by crores of rupees by way of theft of GST as this import is without any billing. This illegal import is also hampering the business of local manufacturers who are engaged in manufacturing the polythene carry bags of the thickness as per Government Order from time to time,” he added.
Gupta appealed the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to issue directions to the concern authorities to force implementation of J&K PCB order regarding thickness of polythene carry bags in letter and spirit. This will also fulfill the ‘Swachch Bharat’ dream of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he asserted.
Sanjay Sovti, general secretary of J&K Polythene Manufacturers & Traders Association was also present on the occasion.
