JAMMU, Sept 9: PCC president Ghulam Ahmed Mir accompanied by senior Congress leaders today visited border areas of RS Pura to meet the families affected by Pakistan firing recently.
Mr Mir and other party leaders expressed their heartfelt condolences and prayed for peace to the departed souls. They expressed their deep sympathies with the victim families. They enquired about the injured and prayed for the early recovery of the injured persons in the Pak-shelling.
On this occasion, PCC president expressed deep concern over the escalation in border-firing and targeting of the civilian population by Pakistan in the recent months and regretted that people all along the J&K borders and LoC are witnessing the most difficult periods in the recent years.
Mir expressed shock over various casualties of human beings and loss of cattle and other properties and hardships being faced for cultivation by the residents and said that there is something seriously wrong in our policy to deal with the current situation. He said the plight of the people all along border is very shocking as they are constantly living in fear of death and destruction and have no option to face this situation.
Responding to the issues of the border residents, Mir favoured early steps to restore calm and normalcy on the borders so that prevailing atmosphere is contained. He also demanded adequate enhancement in the relief/compensation to those killed and permanently disabled in the firing. He said that the previous NC- Congress Govt had conceded the demand for job to a family member of border firing victim and there is need to consider the demand of reservation like ALC to border residents on Indo-Pak border, besides accommodations/plots in safer zones for each family and provision of life & crop insurance to them.
Mr Mir took a dig at the Modi Govt and BJP for exploiting the isolated incidents at the borders during UPA regime and launched a loud campaign for domestic politics but unfortunately the borders did not witness calm and peace during the short stint of 15 months of Modi rule and people have suffered the worst during this period. Prominent senior Congress leaders who accompanied Mr Mir included former Ministers Sham Lal Sharma, Mula Ram, Suman Bhagat and Manjit Singh; senior leaders Indu Pawar Ex-MLA president pradesh Mahila Congress, MLA Gulzar Wani, Co-treasurer Rajnish Sharma, Darshan Raina, Pawan Raina, Shashi Sharma, Sukhdev Singh and Sanjeev Sharma.
