JAMMU, Feb 7: PCC president GA Mir has favoured holding of Lok Sabha and Assembly polls simultaneously in order to give power to the people to elect and install a democratic Government of their choice in the State at the earliest.
Addressing a meeting of District Congress Committee, Jammu Urban at Gandhi Nagar today, PCC chief said that the uncertainty over the holding of Assembly polls should end as soon as possible, so that the political process is fully geared up and the people get ready for the polls. Since ULB & Panchayat elections have been held in the State despite staying away of some main parties, there should be no reason not to hold early Assembly polls, to provide an elected Government to the people who are confronted with numerous hardships, Mir said.
PCC chief said that democratic government is the best form of governance and the Governor’s rule is no substitute to it. He said that people have participated in the ULB and Panchayat elections against all odds in some parts of the State, especially due to utter failure of Centre and the State Government. The Govt must honour the sentiments of the people in all three regions and go ahead for the installation of elected Government at the earliest by holding early polls.
Mir called upon the party functionaries and delegates to go to the masses and maintain close rapport with the people and seek suggestions regarding the issues of general public to be taken up in the party manifest for the next elections.
Reiterating that Congress would ensure equitable and balanced development of three regions and all parts of the state, besides ensuring equal and equitable share in political, social and economical sphere in order to remove the mistrust and the wedge created by the previous Government. He said that the faith of the people needs to be restored in the representatives and political parties, by being honest and sincere in making commitments to the public during elections and ensuring the delivery of commitments and expectations after assuming power
PCC vice president , Raman Bhalla in his address lashed out at the entire BJP leadership for ignoring and neglecting the mandate of Jammu who remained as mute spectators for the sake of power. The people are deeply hurt over attitude of BJP leaders in the Government but unfortunately the people are exploited in the name of religion and castes. He asked the leaders and activists of Jammu Urban to fan out in their areas and educate the masses about the failures of BJP Government at the Centre and State.
Bhalla said that Congress never got such a huge mandate like BJP in 2014 but his party and representatives always struggled for the due rights and share to the people of three regions in order to maintain harmony and broader unity and integrity of the state. He said that people of Jammu region should rise above the caste and religious exploitations and vote unitedly in favour of Congress to defeat the nefarious designs of communal divisive and separatist forces in the state.
Earlier, DCC president Vikram Malhotra welcoming the participants, stressed upon the need to counter the false propaganda of BJP claiming to be champions of Jammu for last seven decades but miserably failed when they got huge mandate on falsehood and unachievable slogans. He said BJP stands exposed totally and it can no longer befool the masses of Jammu region.
Senior leaders Dr RK Khajuria, BB Gupta, Madan Lal Malagar, Gourav Chopra, Satish Sharma, Amrit Bali and Ritu Choudhary were also present.
