SRINAGAR, Dec 3: Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president G A Mir, vice president GN Monga and several other senior leaders and party legislators were again not allowed to visit Batagund in Dooru constituency by police today.
Congress delegation led by PCC chief was not allowed to meet the family of former Sarpanch Sajad Ahmad Malik, who was killed a day before yesterday.
Earlier, GA Mir led by senior Congress leaders were stopped at Jawahar Tunnel by Police, but they managed to reach Umoo Verinag, where from they were not allowed to move towards Batagund, even PCC chief was not allowed to sit at his residence Umoo, which is highly unfortunate and condemnable.
The Police authorities informed the delegation that there were clear directions from the Govt not to allow Mir to visit Batagund, Verinag and offer condolences to bereaved family of Malik, which the police has claimed that the slain was killed after decamping with AK Rifle from Police Station Dooru, thereby, creating an impression that he was killed in a retaliatory action.
Condemning the Govt for putting curbs on the opposition Mir described it as undemocratic, unethical and blamed the Govt for the killing of Sajad Ahmad Malik, who was under strenuous pressure to work for the ruling PDP. He said barring opposition from visiting Batagund amounts to granting impunity to killers. He said the unnecessary restrictions on our movement vindicates our claim regarding killing of former Sarpanch and Congress Party will continue to fight against innocent killings and barbarism, Mir added.
PCC Chief also condemned the suspected killing of Assadullah Kumar of Mandhole Qazigund on Friday and asked the Govt to initiate a probe into this killing. Mir blamed PDP- BJP Coalition for loss of lives and warned that killing of innocent people won’t be tolerated.
Mir was accompanied by MLA Mohd Amin Bhat, MLA Gulzar Ahmad Wani, Surinder Singh Channi, Hilal Ahmad Shah, Farooq Malpuri, Ali Mohd Mantoo and others.
PCC vice president MLC GN Monga, who is representing Panchayats in Legislative Council, was also barred from visiting Dooru. He was scheduled to visit residence of former Sarpanch Sajad Ahmad Malik. Expressing serious concern over the killing of former Sarpanch, Monga said that only a time bound judicial probe would bring the truth behind Sajad’s killing at fore.
