JAMMU, May 26: Expressing concern over high drama created by certain vested interests on establishment of township for settlement of Kashmir migrants in Valley, the PCC Migrant Cell chairman Hira Lal Pandita today demanded that the Government should provide one time compensation to displaced Pandits on the pattern of displaced people of Punjab who fled from their respective areas due to terrorism in eighties.
Mr Pandita in a statement issued here today said that the Government should pay one time compensation to migrants so that they can take a decision about their resettlement on their own as was done in case of Punjab migrants during eighties.
He said this was the best solution to migrants’ problem as Government should now take a one time decision and end the issue of Pandits migration once for all so that the displaced people can take themselves a decision how to settle and where to settle. Pandita said that migrants who have been victims of terrorism are facing worst kind of harassment and humiliation on the name of their rehabilitation as successive governments in last 27 years both in the State as well as Centre have failed to take a bold and strong decision in this regard and failed to settle the displaced Pandits back in Valley.
Pandita said only politics is being played on the name of Kashmiri migrants who have suffered a lot in last 27 years of turmoil. He said the Government should now stop playing politics on this important issue and take a decision once for all which will be acceptable to entire community.
