PCC OBC Deptt demands strong amendment in SC/ST Atrocities Act

JAMMU, July 17: Condemning the inhuman and barbaric act by the police of Guna (MP), Chairman OBC Department, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) J&K, Advocate Suresh Kumar Dogra demanded strong amendment in the SC/ST Atrocities Act.
In a statement, Advocate Dogra said that the Guna incident in which a couple was brutally beaten by the police before their innocent children was heart wrenching. Police crossed all limits of inhumanity to evict them from the Government land when those poor people, he said, adding, they were further compelled to consume pesticides, resulting into their death.
Expressing shock over the incident, Dogra said why dalits are being maltreated in the country. “Are they not Hindu? Or they only become Hindu for some political parties at the time of elections to take their votes,” he questioned and demanded a strong amendment in the SC/ST Atrocities Act. Police officers involved in the incidence must be prosecuted under Section 302 IPC, he asserted.
The other signatories of the statement were Prabodh Jasyal, Som Nath Verma, Raj Kumar Mehra, Raj Kumar Sodhi, Vijay Kumar Vishawkarma, Nageshwar Narayan and Sourav Mehra.
