JAMMU, Apr 2: In a major achievement, Jammu and Kashmir Pollution Control Committee (JKPCC) has seized around 10 tonnes of banned plastic from Railway Station this evening.
An official spokesman said that an input was received by JKPCC about unloading of huge quantity of banned plastic in the Parcel Parking area of Jammu Railway Station.
Acting swiftly, a team led by Ghansham Singh, Member Secretary J&K Pollution Control Committee and comprising of Sanjay Rathore, DO Jammu, Tarsem Singh Chib, Estate Officer and Randeep Singh Manhas, Scientist conducted raid in the Parcel Parking and seized the consignment of around 10 tonnes of banned plastic, which was meant to be transported to different parts of Jammu division as well as Kashmir.
Even the assistance of Forest Protection Force (FPF) was sought in the seizure of such a huge quantity of banned plastic, the spokesman said while disclosing that action under J&K Non-Biodegradable Material (Management, Handling and Disposal) Act and Plastic Waste Management Rules will be taken by JKPCC.
The swift action of JKPCC has prevented such a huge quantity of plastic from reaching different parts of UT and subsequently causing damage to the environment.
