PCCF leads ‘green drive’ involving PRIs

JAMMU, July 25: `Green J&K Drive’ aimed at creating a people’s movement at a massive scale with the involvement of all stakeholders particularly village Panchayats, women folk, tribal community, Urban Local bodies, Government Institutions, NGOs & civil society.
To continue its endeavour, a tree plantation program was organized by Jammu Forest Division at village Panchayat Marh on old Shri Mata Vaishno Devi route wherein 500 saplings were planted today. Roshan Jaggi, PCCF & HoFF J&K was the chief guest on the occasion.
During the drive, the Forest department involved the Panchayati Raj Institutions, NGOs & local public. The chief guest addressed the function and explained importance of forest, biodiversity and conservation of ecosystem. He informed that the J&K Forest Department is leading its commitment of greening every village and Urban Local Bodies in the Union Territory and for this it has launched the campaign ‘Har Gaon Haryali’ under ‘One Beat Guard One Village’ program. Another such campaign is ‘Ped Lagao Beti ke naam’ under which the parents and relatives of girl child are encouraged to plant sapling in the name of their daughter.
He said plantation should be done around the playground in rural areas. At least 1,000 saplings should be planted at the Gram Panchayat level. Private sector, NGOs and religious/social organizations should be roped in for the campaign, Jaggi said.
Shamim Begum, Member DDC Jammu, BDC Chairperson Rehmat Ali, Sarpanch Shibba, Sarpanch Bamyal and Panchayat members of Marh, BM Sharma CCF Jammu, B Mohandass CF East, Anup Soni DFO Jammu and other senior officers of Forest and allied department were present along with hundreds of local people.
