It is a step in right direction that the Power Development Department (PDD) has published the list of defaulters and asked them to deposit the electrictiy tarrif failing which their connections shall be disconnected.
In case PDD play works, it will yield huge revenue to the department. But the moot question is: will it improve power supply, stop power pilferage and working of the PDD. Only time will tell whether PDD succeeded or not in this game.
The basic concern should be dealing with power thefts. Presently power thefts are playing havoc with power system in the State. Some people in department in connivance with some consumers are milking the PDD to their capacity. While those who observe every rule and law of the PDD are subjected to humiliation and harassment. The PDD should refurbish its image by bringing transparency and accountability in its working. Those indulging in power thefts should be penalised and punished.
