PDD conducts over 800 inspections, likely to impose Rs 10 lakh fine on defaulters

JAMMU, July 28: Power Development Department (PDD) conducted over 800 inspections and is likely to impose Rs 10 lakh on the defaulters.
As per Executive Engineer, PDD Sanjay Sharma, who is also a Nodal Officer for this special drive, a mass inspection drive was conducted by the inspection squads of ED-II and ED- III in different areas of Jammu city.
30 teams headed by Assistant Engineers/Junior Engineers conducted simultaneous raids in different areas and found mass violations such as meter tempering, extra service, illegal hooking, etc.
He stated that 10 teams headed by Sardari Lal, AEE from EM&RE Sub Division Gandhi Nagar conducted 308 inspections in Gandhi Nagar, Trikuta Nagar, Nanak Nagar Channi Himmat, Narwal, Ware House and Bhatindi.
“8 teams headed by HS Puri, AE from EM&RE Sub Division Shastri Nagar conducted 162 inspections in Parmandal Morh, Chatha, Ashok Nagar, Satwari, Model Town and Jeevan Nagar areas, Sharma said, adding that 12 teams headed by Anil Abrol from EM&RE Sub Division Canal conducted 392 inspections in Gopi Nand Vihar, Kailash Vihar, Sunder Nagar, Talab Tillo, Puran Nagar, Bhagwati Nagar and Santra Morh.
Sharma further informed that while conducting inspection at a domestic consumer installation situated in Saraswati Vihar, it was found that the meter had shown very less consumption proportional to the actual electric load installed at the consumer premises, spokesman said, adding that the suspicion arise and the team was compelled to had a thorough inspection of the internal wiring system of the said consumer where it was found that the consumer had tempered with the internal wiring of the electric meter. The case under relevant section is being lodged to book the said consumer, he added.
Executive Engineer stated that the violations have been referred to IT and Billing Centre of both the divisions to work out the penal actions as per Electricity Rules to be imposed on the defaulter consumer which is expected to be more than Rs 10 lakhs.
He stated that the concerned Assistant Executive Engineers will also lodge FIRs under Section 95 of JK Electricity Act 2010 in the concerned police station against the defaulters.
