PDD conducts surprise inspections, penalizes 10 for power theft

JAMMU, May 27: To eradicate the menace of power theft, Power Development Department (PDD) along with J&K police conducted surprise night inspections in Ganga Nagar area and penalized 10 people for illegal hooking.
According to a PDD spokesman, taking cognizance of increased tappings during night hours, a team constituted by EMRE III and comprising of Meter Readers, Linemen, Junior Engineers namely Rakesh Lochan and Sushma Parihar, and AEE Avneet Gupta under the supervision of Executive Engineer, Sanjay Sharma inspected Ganga Nagar area and found 15 illegal connections during the 2-hour long drive, which were disconnected on-spot.
The team also collected photographs along with other evidence so that action under appropriate clause of State Electricity Act may be initiated against the defaulters. Besides this, a warning was issued to all those who resort to power pilferage that FIRs will be lodged and police assistance will be sought if required.
