RAJOURI, Feb 17: A daily wage employee of the Power Development Department died of electrocution in Budhal area of district Rajouri today, triggering a protest by the family members and relatives of the deceased.
The victim has been identified as Mushtaq Ahmed, son of Mohammed Bashir, resident of Kewal village in Budhal.
Official sources said the incident took place when the PDD daily wager, was working on an electric pole to remove a fault in the power line. While working he received severe electric shocks and fell down from the pole. He was rushed to Budhal hospital where he was declared as brought dead.
The family alleged negligence on the part of concerned PDD officials and said the electricity was restored when he was working on a pole. He was electrocuted on the spot.
The police reached the spot after receiving information and took possession of the body and removed to Budhal hospital. Police told that a case will be registered based on the complaint of the family members and they will also be provided assistance from the department.
As soon as the news of the death of the daily wager employee spread, his family members and other people started protesting. The family members kept the body in the middle of the road and started protesting by blocking Rajouri- Budhal road and raised slogans against the PDD and administration.
They told that the death of the daily wager employee was caused due to the negligence of the PDD when they knew that an employee was repairing the fault then why was the electricity restored. The family members appealed to the LG administration that a family member of the deceased employee should be given a government job and provided financial assistance.
Meanwhile on the directions of DC Rajouri Om Parkash Bhagat Tehsildar Kotranka Sahil Ali Shah gave financial assistance of Rs 50,000 and assured that all other benefits under rule will be given to his family.
