JAMMU, July 26: As a part of their 72-hour strike, the daily wagers of Power Development Department continued their protest demonstration and strike near Panama Chowk office of the PDD here today.
They are demanding release of their pending salary and regularisation besides resolution of their pending demands which have already projected before the higher authorities in the JKUT several times.
The workers assembled near Panama Chowk office of the PDD on Railway Road Jammu on the third day today and staged protest dharna. They told that they were performing their duty without any salary and department was not paying any attention towards them as they are doing all the works in the department assigned to them by putting their life at risk. They added that a number of daily wagers lost their lives while performing their job and department has no policy for them which is a great injustice and left their families to suffer.
The protesting employees told that they are doing work on a meager salary which is not paid to them timely, due to which their families have to suffer badly. They further demanded that Government must come out with a clear policy with regard to their regularisation in the department.
They claimed that if their demands are not met, they will continue their strike indefinitely or till their demands are met. They added that Government promised with them in 2021 and same has not been implemented till now. They warned that they are being compelled to go for indefinite strike. Several Union leaders addressed the gathering.
