PDD employee jumps into Chenab

JAMMU, Sept 5: A daily wager employee of Power Development Department (PDD) has allegedly committed suicide by jumping into river Chenab from steel bridge in Akhnoor area here, a police official said.
The deceased has been identified as Sohan Lal, son of Om Parkash of Mazdoor Basti Reshamgarh, Bakshi Nagar District Jammu.
He parked his motorcycle in the middle of the steel bridge and jumped into the river Chenab. Soon after the incident, the divers were pressed in but the body could not be retrieved from the river.
However, cognizance in this regard has been taken by Akhnoor Police in this regard.
Meanwhile, Provincial Power Employees Forum (PPEU) has condoled the demise of the daily wager working at Bhatindi Receiving Station. Sohan Lal, who allegedly committed suicide by jumping into river Chenab.
In a meeting conveyed of PPEU, Shakti Gupta, Chairman of the Union along with Ajaz Kazmi General Secretary, Sanjeev Bali President, Deep Mehra Chief Organiser and Manjeet Singh Vice President demanded compensation and job for a family member of the deceased.
“Daily wager employees of the Power Development Department (PDD) are working in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic and should be treated as Coronavirus warrior”, they added.
