JAMMU, Jan 6: All J&K PDD Employees Union and Daily Wagers Union have given a three-day call for strike from January 11 to 13 in support of their pending demands.
The decision with regard to the strike was taken in a meeting of the Union members held here today under the leadership of Arvind Sharma, president of All J&K PDD Employees Union/ Daily Wagers Union ( Jammu province) here today. The Union appealed the members/ employees to assemble at Janipur PDD complex outside of the office of Commissioner, Power Development on January 11 at 10 am to launch their agitational programme.
The Union president alleged that Jammu and Kathua district workers have been discriminated by the higher authorities. He alleged that Jammu is the largest district in the region and only 321 daily rated workers were regularized from this district whereas, only 60 from district Kathua. It is a grave injustice meted out to the workers of these districts as the daily rated workers from Udhampur, Doda, Rajouri and Poonch have been regularized up to 2004, the workers from Jammu and Kathua have been regularized up to 09/1997 and March 3, 1995, respectively. This type of sheer injustice with these daily rated workers who have completed more than 17 years of service in the department is causing great resentment among these employees.
He further alleged that the PDD authorities have not released the wages of daily rated workers for the last 18-20 months, with the result these workers and their families are facing starvation. The senior officers of the department are sleeping over the matter.
Prominent among those present in the meeting included-Gul Mohd Bhat (vice president), Bharat Singh-chairman, State secretary- Ashwani Kumar, Ajay Sharma and Parveen Kumar.
