JAMMU, Mar 21: The employees of the Power Development Department (PDD) today staged a protest at Power House, Gladni in Narwal area of city outskirts against suspension of Superintending Engineer and Executive Engineer, PDD Division Kishtwar.
Representatives of various associations of PDD employees including Jammu Kashmir Electrical Graduate Engineers’ Association, Electric Diploma Engineers’ Association, Provincial Power Employees’ Association and PDD Linemen’s Association participated in the protest.
The angry employees termed the recent suspension of Niyaz Ahmad, Executive Engineer (XEn) PDD Division Kishtwar and Rajan Gupta, SE Kishtwar, for alleged inability to complete electrification works by March 2018, as an act of harassment by the Government and added that Government was expecting to complete the works without men, material and funds.
They alleged that the engineers in Kishtwar were being harassed for their inability to meet the timelines for electrification works in inaccessible mountainous areas. They said that the decision of suspension of both the officers taken by the Government needed immediate revocation as it was taken without any thought process.
“The breach of timelines was imminent given the circumstances these hapless engineers are experiencing in most of the departments. They are continuing with the works despite hostile terrain” said protesting employees.
“The work was started in the month of August and in a span of just 5/6 months with limited resources the electrification work was completed barring one of the villages, where some work remained pending due to highly hostile terrain. All of a sudden these officers are told to complete the works by March 2018 in a review meeting at Jammu and the officers were well within their right to put forth their constraints” they maintained and appealed the Deputy CM, Dr Nirmal Singh to revoke the suspension order with immediate effect so that the execution of ongoing work could be taken up on fast track basis.
