JAMMU, Feb 10: A large number of employees and workers of the Power Development Department (PDD) today held strong protest demonstration at Exhibition Ground near Press Club here today.
The employees various unions and associations of PDD employees and workers, under the banner of JK PDD Employees Forum (Jammu), assembled near Press Club here in the morning and started protest demonstration. They were opposing privatization/ re-bundling move of the State Govt and seeking review of the decision. They were also carrying banners and placards depicting their demands.
They strongly opposed the decision of the Government regarding restructuring of JKPDD into companies. The leadership of the Forum comprising of eight unions addressed the programme. Several prominent trade unionists also addressed the gathering.
While addressing the employees/ workers, P C Sharma, Sanjeev Bali, Deepak Tandon, Shakti Gupta, Rafiq Ahmed Khanyari, Manmohan Singh, Jatinder Sharma, Parshotam Sharma, Sanjeev Dhar and others alleged that Government was responsible for the present mess and scenario in the Power sector and these things have to be borne by the controlling agencies and the ruling authorities. They condemned the new policy of the Government with regard to restructuring of the JKPDD into the companies. They pointed out that future of thousands of Power employees will be jeopardized and the Government must consider this fact. They claimed that Govt employees will not tolerate the operation of private companies in this sector. The Forum leaders sought the intervention of State Governor NN Vohra into the matter.
They gave ultimatum of 15 days to the Government to withdraw Cabinet Order of 2012 or get ready to face major Statewide agitation. Prominent among those present included Koushal Sharma, Raman Sharma, Rattan Chand, Tirath Ram, Vijay Gupta, Pawan Kumar, Bishan Singh, Girdhari Lal, Gurmeet Singh and Suresh Anthal.
