SRINAGAR, Aug 24: Casual labourers working in Power Development Department (PDD) have threatened to put whole Jammu and Kashmir into darkness if Government failed to release their salaries.
The protesting employees said the department has failed to pay their wages on time, despite doing every kind of work in the department. “The department is using us in repairing wires, digging for erecting electricity poles, carrying damaged and new transformers and collecting fee from consumers, but failed to protect us from exploitation,” Mohammad Shafi, State president all Jammu and Kashmir Casual Labourers Union said.
Casual labourers, who were protesting here today, demanded full payment of their wages which according to them have been withheld for more than eight months.
The union has threatened to push State under darkness and would come on streets and agitate with more aggressive ways, if their demands are not met.
