KATHUA, Apr 16: A lineman of PDD was electrocuted today while working on maintenance of a Low Tension line in Lakhanpur area of the district.
He has been identified as Dharam Singh, 51, son of Kashi Ram of Mah village.
The killing evoked strong public resentment in the area and people blocked National Highway for some time in protest alleging that the lineman died due to total negligence of the Department.
His colleagues in the Department said that the lineman was working on maintenance of the line after the power shutdown was announced in the area. However the power supply was resumed while he was working on the line resulting in his electrocution. The poor fellow fell on the ground and he was shifted to DH Kathua where doctors declared him as brought dead.
The Lakhanpur Police has registered a case under 304 RPC. The dead body of lineman was handed over to family members by police after postmortem in the evening for last rites.
