PDD trying to tide over T&D losses: Mir

Jammu, Apr 10: The Minister of State for Power Development, Mohammad Ashraf Mir said that in order to achieve reduction in Transmission & Distribution (T&D) losses, Re-structured Accelerated Power Development Reforms Programme (R-APDRP) is under implementation in the State.
While replying to a question of Dr Shehnaz Ganai in Legislative Council today the minister said that the T&D losses for the last 3 years in Jammu province are 39.61% for 2011-12, 36.59% for 2012-13, 33.03% for 2013-14 and 31% for 2014-15 ending February, while as total percentage of power consumption including different categories viz Domestic, Commercial, Irrigation/Agriculture etc. is 99.57 percent.
The minister said that construction of new sub-stations both at 66 & 33 KV level, laying of new 33 KV, 11 KV lines, bifurcation of feeders, creation of distribution transformer sub-stations in load centres, augmentations of existing line conductor, replacement of car-conductor by aerial bunched cables, effective metering and periodic inspections to check unauthorized use of electricity are covered under R-APDRP.
Mr Mir further said that regularization of illegal connections, upgradation of old & dilapidated network under Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) and under Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) schemes, are other steps initiated by the department to bring down T&D losses.
The minister said that there are around 69,079 BPL beneficiaries under Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidutikaran Yojana (RGGVY) in 14 districts including erstwhile Srinagar, Anantnag, Jammu, Kathua and others. For electrification of leftover un-electrified/de-electrified villages/patties/hamlets/BPL households, a Centrally Sponsored Schemes namely Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) has been launched and the Need Assessment Document (NAD) of DDUGJY is under formulation, the Minister added.
With regard to restoration of 132 KV Draba-Chandak transmission line, the Minister said that it is under technical examination.
