JAMMU, Jan 12: The workers of Power Development Department (PDD) continued their protest programme and strike on the second consecutive day here today.
On the second day of the strike here today, All J&K PDD Employees Union/ Daily Wagers Union members shouted slogans against the PDD authorities in the State for their failure to provide justice to the daily rated workers from Kathua and Jammu districts.
Several Union leaders including Arvind Sharma, provincial president strongly criticized the PDD authorities for ignoring the issues of workers from Kathua and Jammu districts. They pointed out that while daily rated workers from other districts were regularized in large number, in Kathua just 60 workers and Jammu merely 321 workers were regularized.
The Union president said that in view of Lohri festival, the Union members decided to suspend strike/ agitation till January 20. Moreover, the Development Commissioner Power is also on two days’ leave. He urged upon the Governor to intervene into the matter and provide them justice. Gul Mohd Bhat vice president and chairman of the Union Bharat Singh also spoke on the occasion.
