JAMMU, Feb 25: Pahari Development Forum, Paddar (Kishtwar) headed by its chairman Kartar Singh Rathore, today staged a sit-in protest in front of Divisional Commissioner’s Office in Jammu and submitted a memorandum demanding immediate start of work withheld on Atholi-Machail road.
The Forum said that the construction work of this urgent nature road was taken up in 2008 by PMGSY and the work on a stretch of five kilometers was completed from Gulab Garh to Garh but stopped by the public of Garh due to unknown reasons.
The protesting members of the Forum regretted that even after the directions of the State High Court, the PMGSY Department is not taking up the construction work from the stopped site onwards.
While elaborating the significance of the Atholi-Machail Road, the protesting members said that lakhs of pilgrims of Machail Mata besides near about 15000 population from Gulab Garh to Machail will be benefitted if the road is completed. “Moreover, due to completion of road the world famous sapphire mine can be connected and the heavy machinery can be easily taken up for extraction work, which will also increase the revenue of the Government”, they maintained.
“The road can also be a safe alternate for Jammu to Ladakh journey via Zojilla, as one can reach Jammu to Paddar Machail through this road and then through a tunnel upto Ladakh”, the Forum said.
