JAMMU, Dec 14: Reiterating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has bigger responsibilities at national and international level, the former Chief Minister Mufti Mohd Sayeed today claimed that his People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was the only alternative before people of Jammu and Kashmir for getting their regional aspirations fulfilled.
“Like Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal and Jayalalitha in Tamil Nadu, only a regional party like PDP can take care of the local aspirations of people in Jammu and Kashmir State,” he said while addressing a public meeting in support of the party candidate from Jammu-West, Daman Bhasin, here this evening.
Mufti said that J&K has peculiar issues since independence because of its geography as well as cultural diversity and these concerns can not be addressed while sitting in New Delhi. “Narendra Modi is Prime Minister of the country and he has to accomplish big tasks like taking India forward at par with China and super power United States but tell me who will address the local issues of development and regional aspirations,” he asked.
Maintaining that State BJP has no effective leader while both National Conference and Congress have been got exposed because of their misdeeds during the last six years, Mufti Sayeed stressed that PDP was the only and most suitable alternative for a Government in Jammu and Kashmir State.
Mufti claimed that PDP, during its tenure of just three years, had proved how to provide corruption-free governance to the people by bringing total transparency and accountability in the functioning of the Government. “Just like Modi gives example of Gujarat model of development, we set an example of good governance during PDP’s regime of just three years wherein every individual was provided with the equal opportunity of growth and development”, he said.
Reiterating his resolve to institutionalize transparency and accountability in the governance, Mufti said that the PDP had shown the way for strengthening democratic and constitutional institutions in the State by initiating various revolutionary steps during its short span in the power.
Complimenting people for their participation in the four phases of elections held so far, the PDP patron said that the trust and confidence shown by electorate on his party was the guiding force to transform Jammu and Kashmir as an island of peace and prosperity. He predicted that PDP was all set to form Government with a clear majority in the State and this was evident from the winds of change blowing in Jammu and Kashmir. However, at the same time, he hinted that the party was not averse to post poll alliance with others for implementation of its welfare agenda for commoners. “During the election season, all parties hurl allegations and grill each other but once the polls are over, hands are to be joined and we have to go together for effectively serving the people,” he said and recalled the support provided by then BJP-led NDA regime to his PDP Government, which was in coalition with Congress party in 2002.
Earlier, addressing a rally at Biaspur-Parlah in Suchetgarh Assembly segment, Mufti promised that if PDP was voted to power, this belt would be developed as Basmati Growth Zone. He also assured that PDP Government would ensure that farmers of border areas may cultivate their land up-to Zero Line and also assured on-spot recruitments in border areas.
Highlight some points of the election manifesto of the party, Mufti said that his party has promised to give minority status to Sikhs in J&K. He also promised to develop Suchetgarh border point as tourist destination like Wagha Border.
